From my mom Yolanda!!! Today marks a major milestone – my departure from Shadelands Rehabilitation Center after an incredible journey of growth and healing. I’m deeply grateful to the entire team for their exceptional care, compassion, and dedication. The nursing staff’s kindness, patience, and understanding have been truly inspiring, and I appreciate the tireless efforts of everyone who has contributed to my recovery. Shadelands Rehabilitation Center is a shining example of excellence – a serene, organized, and welcoming environment that feels like a tranquil oasis. I’ve been fortunate to encounter outstanding individuals like Anna, Ariel, and the entire PT and OT team, who have empowered me to regain my strength and mobility. Special thanks to JJ, nurse wound care, for their expertise and care. Everyone deserves recognition for their remarkable work, and I feel fortunate to have experienced such outstanding care.

I am very impressed with the care I received at Shadelands. Everyone that I had contact with was pleasant and helpful. I was not sent home until they determined that I was physically and mentally ready. I would highly recommend to anyone that this is the place to be while recovering.

My guardian angel must have been looking in another direction when I fell and broke my hip but she more than made up for it when she got me into Shadelands Post Op. the scrupulous attention of staff members to my needs is extraordinary. Thanks to their vigilance and guidance, I have been able to regain much of my previous mobility in two weeks. The physical and occupational staff work with me every day, incrementally adjusting exercises to increase my strength and range of motion. And did I mention the food? If a particular meal doesn’t appeal to me, I receive an alternative menu to choose from. The staff’s esprit de corps is marvelous to behold. They enjoy one another. I want to give a shoutout to particular staff members I have been lucky enough to work with: Judith, Director of Nursing, Herna, Assistant Director of Nursing, Princess, Food Manager, JJ, Wound Specialist, and Frosten, Janice, Marshall, Alonzo, Adriana, and Keona. I only wish I could remember the names of the other staff who have converted my accidental fall into a lucky break!

The Ritz of Rehab! Superb activity planning by Arcel Bulatao; sensitive support from each CNA; physical and tailored occupational therapy programs have dramatically increased my mobility after only a few days. I consider myself very fortunate to have chosen this facility.

If you have to go to a post-acute care facility in the East Bay, feel encouraged that you can have a positive healing experience that supports you with medical care, wound care, amazing and fun physical and occupational therapies, delicious and appropriate meals, the best nursing care, recreational and social opportunities, and effective communications with your medical support team. When it comes to the nursing team, they are professional but really relatable. They helped me through difficult situations, while teaching me to care for myself. I was thinking of which nurses should be given special mention, then I realized my experiences were all outstandingly good and helpful. The administrative staff was great with me and my family. The place is clean, bright, and modern. I had a courtyard shared room, which was actually a single room with a shared bathroom. I later had a private room. Both were comfortable and spacious. The doctors were helpful and greatly contributed to my complete and speedy recovery. I am grateful that my stay turned out to be a positive, healing experience that got me smoothly back home after a serious acute medical event. My insurance appears to have covered everything.

My dad spent about two months here after a broken hip. The staff were very caring and responsive and wanted to support. All the people in OT and PT as well as all the nurses were wonderful. Thank you, you made a big difference to our family and helped my dad get back on his feet.

My dad was recently at Shadelands for close to 3 months. I was extremely pleased with the care he received, the staff, and with the facility itself. A few points: 1) The building is so nice! It’s modern and cheery. And the courtyard area, which my dad could access from his room, was beautiful and a nice retreat when the sun was out. 2) My dad’s room was great too. Lots of natural light, high ceilings, a tv that was easy to work, with all the channels he needed (this may seem small, but the cable situation at another SNF was terrible and my dad was perpetually frustrated). Also, the fact that Shadelands only has single rooms is so nice. 3) I was impressed by the cleanliness of the facility. I often saw the cleaning people when I was there, and I could see that they were doing a fantastic job. 4) Every staff member we met, from the directors, to the front desk receptionist, to cleaning staff, was friendly, caring, and welcoming. I sensed that the staff was happy at Shadelands. 5) Aman and her rehab crew were excellent! I talked to Aman several times – she was always receptive, informative, and helpful. And her staff did a great job with my dad. 6) Cristina, the Social Services director, was also great! I talked to her multiple times about the plans for my dad. She was always so helpful and so friendly. 7) I’m so impressed by the communication from Shadlelands staff. From the introductory meeting to the check in conversations, to the follow up calls I’ve received after my dad’s departure, I can see that communication is a point of emphasis, and one that I very much appreciate. 8) The food was really good, something I didn’t think I’d say about a SNF 😀! And it was great that they offered alternatives for meals (like sandwiches instead of hot meals for lunch or dinner). 9) Special shout out to a few staff members who I saw frequently while I was there: Fay (front desk), Lesley (RN), Jewel (CNA), and Marcella (CNA). All were so friendly and so caring to my dad!

Very recently, I fell and broke my hip – a non-displaced fracture of the femoral neck. After a successful repair procedure (aka surgery), which included installation of three metal pins (which when x-rayed look like three wood screws) was off to Shadelands Post Acute, for recovery and therapy. Was, almost of course, leery of being packed off to what, I thought, must be the equivalent of a nursing home; nowadays called a skilled nursing facility or SNIFF in the biz.(Note to Google – time to update your category name for this type of place) In fact, being here has been a kind of pleasure. Building is new-ish and up to date, all private rooms, gym used for physical therapy. Very unexpectedly, even the meals are good! However, the real high points are the staff, who are simultaneously expert in the range of roles and, somehow upbeat, positive and continually helpful, something much appreciated by us invalids. While there are too many to list here, I want to mention Judith Don, Herna Adon and Babylyn. To all of you, thank you! P.S. Wrote the foregoing review when it seemed I might be on the verge of discharge. (As I mentioned to the staff then, as much as I like Shadelands Post Acute, will be happy to go home. Developed, almost of course, that my optimism over an imminent discharge was a bit too early. Several weeks later, though, and I was on my way, my high opinion of the place undiminished. In those last weeks, the staff continued their considerate attentions to this then invalid. Realized it wouldn’t right, then, not to mention several who were especially helpful, including CNA Dominique and LVN Jeremiah. Must mention, too, Agnes, whose lively, intelligent, personable ways were an elixir for this old man.

My client was in this facility for 2 months and I came and visit her every day and I must say she loved the CNA’s especially Kaitlin and Alessa, some PT’s and OT’s were great except this one PT Mae is terrible and awful, first time I observed her doing therapy with my client she just left her after doing 1 exercise and then she went talking, on her phone and eating with her peers while my client’s wondering and feeling helpless on what to do next, the second time my client had PT with Mae was that she was doing 2 patients in one setting, leaving 2 people supposedly doing their exercises and she’s off somewhere doing something else, what a terrible service. I’m hoping that anybody’s love ones who’s staying here will not get a therapy from this person. It’s too bad that this place is wonderful and have this person working here who doesn’t deserve to be here and making this place looks bad with her terrible service.

It’s often challenging to get needs met quickly in a convalescent care setting, so I want to give a shout out to Emily and Wendylen, nurses at Walnut Creek’s Shadelands Post-Acute. My adult daughter, who has Down syndrome and many health issues, was in residence there recovering after a fall precipitated a long hospitalization. Physical therapy being terribly hard for her, I decided to get an orthopedic consult to assess her risk/benefit. I was offered appointments at their nearby offices a month out, or…only about 90 minutes after my call! I needed the information they could provide asap so I opted to get her there any way I could. That’s where Emily and Wendylen came in. They changed her quickly and dressed her for the cool day outside. They modified her wheelchair with elevated leg supports so the blisters on her shins would be less likely to flow. They brought in the equipment to help her stand for transfer to the chair and secured her once she’d moved. All that while being cheerful! No lie, I would’ve loved a transport van to have been an option, and I’m too old to have pushed her half a mile, but the rapidity with which Emily and Wendylen helped me, no questions asked, made it possible for her to arrive at the physician’s office in time, where I got my valuable information. And when we returned, they made sure that we got some lunch!

My wife recently stayed at Shadelands for about 47 days. I had the pleasure of visiting her daily and was always greeted by name in a friendly and welcoming manner. Feh and Marj at reception were so welcoming! The staff is the key. They are all wonderfully kind and supportive! The care was great! An additional mention and thanks to Ariel for all his kindness and support of my wife.

I have a family member staying there and we were told to stop asking questions or she would be kicked out of the facility. This is a scary time for us and just trying to process, and asking questions is how we do so.

We take your concerns very seriously and want to ensure that all families feel comfortable and supported when communicating with our staff about their loved one’s care. We would like to hear more about this specific incident so we can thoroughly look into what happened and address any issues that may have occurred. Please contact us at (925) 448-3782 to discuss your family member’s care and this concerning interaction you experienced with our facility.

My husband got ill recently. And we were both so thankful that he was able to go to Shadelands for his care. Shadeland has a very happy positive environment. They are not just interested in the physical care, but also the emotional care of their patients. They provide music and activities so that they can keep the spirits of their patients up. THANK YOU ALL AT SHADELANDS! Special thanks to: Marge: she always greeted me like a friend. if I had any questions, she knew the answer or directed me to the person who could answer my question. She was also very helpful small things like one day I bought my husband sushi and we needed soy sauce. I knew if anyone could help me it would be Marge. Sure enough she had an extra packet and shared. Melanie: very conscientious nurse kind caring and very efficient. Nora: She too was kind and showed personal interested and was very informative. JJ: was a nurse who was very professional and helpful. Dolores: was efficient, accommodating, and had a fun spirit. Anna; was accommodating, sweet, gentle and will spirit. Kristen: was the dietitian and was very caring, attentive, helpful and respectful to my husband‘s emotional concerns as well as his diet. Caleb: was helpful, challenging and focused as a physical therapist. Kashvi: as a occupational therapist she was very dedicated and serious. Christian: was available and very efficient in answering us with all our questions. Lydia: was joyful, happy and good communicator. Meetel: extremely efficient and would stop doing what she was doing and would give me her full attention with my concern. I also really love the fact that the place was kept very very, very clean.

Shadelands Post Acute does a great job taking care of their residents. No skilled nursing facility is ever perfect, but this team truly strives to provide good service and support families the best they can. You can tell they genuinely care about the people they serve. Cristina Dela Cruz, the Social Services Director, really stands out. She stays on top of her discharges and makes sure residents leave with a solid, safe plan in place. What I appreciate most is that she doesn’t just hand them off and move on — she follows up even after they’ve left to make sure they’re doing well. That kind of follow-through and heart makes a big difference.
